Naturefund – a project to support biodiversity in Madagascar

Madagascar, the world’s fourth largest island, has a rich and unique diversity of animal and plant species. Some species can only be found in the rainforests here, which makes these habitats particularly worth protecting. That’s why YOGI TEA® supports a wonderful project led by the nature conservation organisation, Naturefund.

Their objective is the reforestation of Madagascar, providing a natural habitat for lemurs, amongst other species. Massive areas of these forests have been lost to slash-and-burn agriculture and illegal deforestation. Naturefund is reversing the trend using the ‘dynamic agroforestry’ method. This is a method that combines agriculture with reforestation. The forest is growing back again, and local smallholders are also given the opportunity to grow valuable native species of herbs and spices, such as cinnamon, vanilla and cloves.
