Naturefund – Madagascar

Madagascar is one of the largest islands in the world and it has unique flora and fauna, in one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world. However, large-scale extraction of mineral resources and years of deforestation, mean that many of the indigenous plant and animal species are threatened with extinction.

To help retain the unique biodiversity of Madagascar, YOGI TEA® is supporting the non-profit conservation organisation Naturefund. Its goals include reconstructing natural forests in Madagascar, which offer the numerous plant and animal species a natural habitat and give the small local farmers the opportunity to grow the indigenous herbs and spices, such as cinnamon, vanilla and cloves organically.

To achieve their goal, Naturefund promotes “dynamic agroforestry”, a method that makes it possible to combine agriculture with reforestation to create sustainable natural forests, which in turn provide a safe habitat for threatened species, such as lemurs and tenrecs that only live on Madagascar.
